Prachyanat's collaborative works and participation in the international platform
'Theatre of Provocation - South Asian Drama' at Japan Foundation Asia Centre
‘Jhora Phool’ (The Bud Withers) was based on the controversial Letter to a Child Never Born by Oriana Fallaci, an Italian journalist and feminist who has made a career out of confronting and provoking authority throughout the world. It was dramatized and directed by Azad Abul Kalam, based on a Bangla Translation of the original by Anu Mohammad. Azad Abul Kalam, Rahul Ananda and Reetu Sattar had been the participants and performers at this program titled ‘Theatre of Provocation – South Asian Drama’. The other participating countries along with Bangladesh were India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
A collaboration of five directors from five South Asian Countries to make one play
‘The Baburnama’ (Memories of a Legend) had been a medieval epic in contemporary form constructed on 24 impressions based on the book of same title written by the First Mughal Emperor Babur himself. Five directors from five countries of South Asia – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – had had to relocate their ideas as it were into sixteenth century text, to be presented as a single performance. By this process boundaries became less impermeable, more porous, and conventions became more practicable. The play had three performances over Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan and in Delhi in India.
